Scottish Poetry Selection – Wha Daur Meddle Wi’ Me?
The royal coat of arms in Scotland has the Latin motto “Nemo me impune lacessit“. The English translation of this is “Nobody interferes with me with impunity” and this is often defiantly expressed in broad Scots as “Wha daur meddle wi’ me?” which is the title of this anonymous poem. But on this occasion it is being aggressively repeated by a member of the Elliot family, one of the Border families who not only fought their neighbours but were part of the first line of defence against marauding English invaders – and could sometimes defy the Scottish monarch as well!

Which have a DNA influence. If DNA is not correlated with other information such as male sharing the same surname, then it is pretty useless for genealogical purposes.
Though my surname line had been in America since ca. 1650, decided to take a look at my mothers line.

It should be noted that the name Stephen in Stephen Barna as a surname is Scottish.

Could likely be the reason it was chosen by dad Loren Elliott of a Scottish name, and mother, as my middle name, as Stephen, spelled in Scotland like my Slavic-German granddad spelled his name Stephen and not Steven.

Konnte wahrscheinlich der Grund sein, warum Vater Loren Elliott einen schottischen Namen gewählt hatte, und Mutter, wie mein zweiter Vorname, Stephen, buchstabierte in Schottland, wie mein slawisch-deutscher Großvater seinen Namen Stephen und nicht Steven buchstabierte.

Aus dem Slawischen in Wikipedia; Polabische Slawen (Wenden) ließen sich in Teilen von England (Danelaw) nieder, anscheinend als dänische Verbündete. (Ähnlichkeit mit Vaters Vorfahren?)

One would see a similar distribution with Anglo-Saxon place-name distribution.
Man würde eine ähnliche Verteilung mit angelsächsischer Ortsnamenverteilung sehen.
