Above shield is the one last in acceptance, and is felt with the red background, golden stars and stag, with silver/white chevron is the closest pattern after the one of Gorrenberry and Redheugh, before Redheugh adopted the shield with the elwand in the bend, in the 16th century.  Gorrenberry retains the previous shield.  Note that the chevron denotes land ownership. William Ellot addressed as Goodman of Gorrenberry, where Goodman also denotes land ownership.

Gorrenberry-Family-Tree1

Gorrenberry Horsleyhill tree

The Gorrenberry Crest is of William Elwald/Ellot of Gorrenberry;

William Elwald McPatrik

William Elwald of McPatrik (names Mosspatrikswine (where the burn spreads out, and after the son of Patrick Hepburn-Boswell which acquired the lands of Archibald Douglas), McPatrikhope, upper Broadlleehope, Braidleyhope, and Braidley Burn), these lands were listed with early land which Robert of Redheugh obtained from William Douglas of the Barony of Cavers at the beginning of the sixteenth century, but it is this upper part of Braidley Burn still in Liddesdale passed into the hands of the head of the Gorrenberry lands that of the name William, so this William Elwald found in McPatrik is considered the son of the one at the listed as William Elwald de Gorrenberry, at the time Robert received lands of Redheugh and Lariston.

Gorrenberry, and the Walter Scot, family were represented at the infeft of land of Robert of Redheugh. The above expresses my line of William Elwald/Ellot of Gorrenberry, along with William Ellot of Prickhaugh, and Robert Ellot of Braidlie in support of Robert Ellot of Redheugh, which was said to plot to assassinate Buccleuch, though I as an Elwald/Ellot of Gorrenberry, which line was in attendance with the Walter Scot, of Edshaw son of David Scot of Buccleuch line, which was there and in 1624 said Robert was note properly infefted, with the documentations, which shows he was. Buccleuch, like the Armstrong have indicated to me can not be trusted.

When Buccleuch, Richard Scot of Buccluech Estate, stated that he would bring law against the Border Council, which like him went against the Hermitage Castle Muirhall Wind Farm, this was to try to appease the Armstrong, when it was the crocked as Gilnockie’s government of James V, today’s wind farm purchased Scottish Government personnel, in which under the protection of James V. border Armistrang (Scottish strong army ie Armstrong), and Elwald (ie Ellot) were hung.

The “Cowie of Gorrenberry”, died along with the last of the Gorrenberry line, but my family was living as leasers of the Somerville-Hamiliton Anglican, Tullikelter, Fermanagh, Ulster Castle/Manor, and we of the Gorrenberry line did not die off.

Note; Redheugh, Lariston & Hartsgarth, are in the above, and therefore share the same shield with an elwand on it. Gilbert of Hartsgarth uses the same shield;

It should be noted that Lariston is part of the lands of Redheugh. Redheugh, Braidley part of the Barony of Cavers, Copshaw south near Mangerton, and William a common name for the Gorrenberry family.

In which William Elwald holder of the lands of Gorrenberry helped to bring the lands of Archibald “Bell the Cat” Douglas fifth earl of Angus in which Robert Elwald was the family squire and to become Robert Elwald of Redheugh, and Lariston, and many of the nearby lands, between the Hermitage  (Armytage), and Mangerton.

One should note that the symbol before it arrived in the British Isles it was felt that  the stag head was of an elk (moose) stag. The lands of Andrew (Dand) Ellot of the Gorrenberry line after being abolished from both kingdoms 1607, without support of the Buccleuch line, was not acquired by Gavin Ellot of Stobs, or Robert Ellot of Redheugh, but by the Scott of Buccleuch. The people which supported the those of Gorrenberry which rode with nearby Martin Ellot of Braidley, which supported the Armstrong were abolished from the Borderland also.

Scot, Ker, Ellot feud

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clan_Scott

The Scotts had become one of the most powerful of all the Border clans by the end of the fifteenth century and the chief could call upon a thousand spears to support him.[3] Like most of the Border Reiver clans the Scotts quarrelled with their neighbours, in particular the Clan Kerr.[3] The feud began on the 25 July 1526 when Sir Walter Scott of Buccleuch launched an attack (the Battle of Melrose) to rescue the young James V of Scotland who was being held by the Douglas Earl of Angus at Darnick just west of Melrose, and in the ensuing fight Kerr of Cessford was killed.[3] Sir Walter Scott was also wounded in the action.[3] Scott later fought against the English at the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh and four years later was appointed warden of Liddesdale and the Middle Marches.[3] The Kerrs however were biding their time and in 1552 they set upon Sir Walter Scott on Edinburgh High Street and killed him.[3] The feud came to an end when Sir Thomas Kerr of Ferinhurst married Janet Scott who was the sister of the tenth Laird of Buccleuch.[3]

In 1565 a deadly feud arose between the Clan Scott and their neighbours the Clan Eliott.[5] Scott of Buccleuch executed four Eliotts for the minor crime of cattle rustling.[5] In repsonse three hundred Eliotts rode to avenge the fate of their kinsmen and during the battle losses on both sides were heavy but eventually the two clans came to terms with each other.[5]

Today, the Redheugh Eliott, the Kerr Clan chief, and the Duke of Roxburghe, are or have been of Northern British Windpower (NBW), Limited, and have won a suit which the Duke of Northumberland a relative of Buccleuch brought against them. Today this feuding on the borders Buccleuch, Armstrong, and the Cowie of Gorrenberry, noted to show up when the family of Elwald/Ellot needs help, are riding with centuries old protectorate of The Hermitage Castle, the Buccleuch family, The Clan which protects the ancestral lands of the reivers, and is of Scotlands strongest army the Clan Armstrong, and one Cowie of Gorrenberry protecting family lands of those who have went abroad, and supporting the Elwald/Ellot family of the father’s father.

Northern British Windpower, Inc if the clan chief of Clan Elliot, of Clan Kerr, and/or the Duke of Roxburghe, haven’t stood out against the desecration of The Hermitage Castle by the placement of Windy Edge Wind Farm of Infinis on Hermitage Castle Hill. In other words Infinis is doing the dirty work of the Redhuegh Eliott allied with the Clan Kerr against Buccleuch, Armstrong, and The Gorrenberry Elwald/Ellot.

Sweet milk is of Stobs, Stobs of Baillillie, Baillillie of Horseleyhill, Horseleyhill is of Gorrenberry.

Gilbert was born of Redheugh, and that is why Redheugh, and Stobs utilized a shield with and elwand (rod an Edinburgh el/ell/eln in length) on it, but his parentage is of Horselyhill/Baillillie and Stobs, for father, and of Buccleuch for mother. Gilbert was also married in to the Scott family. So being of born of Redheugh, parentage of Gorrenberry/Horseleyhill and mother’s side strongly Buccleuch, and Scott, this was the beginning at The Union of the Crown, when other members of the Redheugh (Martin), Gorrenberry (Andrew) and Scott resettled because of banishment from the borders on to Ulster with the Gorrenberry/Horseleyhill family having help from the Hamiltons, and the Martin Ellot Redheugh family seems to have help from the long allied Hume of family to the same region of Fermanagh, County in the Ulster Plantation.

It should be noted; In 1620 when Robertus Ellot of Redheugh receives part of Stobs, when Robin Eliott is of Stobs. Robin  (son of Rob) Hob like Bob for Robert is used by the other families.  Stobs is the family which uses the Eliott spelling. In around 1620 the line of the chieftain with support of the in-law Buccleuch family was transferred from Redheugh to Stob, this portion of land transferred from Stobs to Redheugh, may have been a part of the transfer of the chieftain.

In the following one can see the lands which Sir Gilbert acquired are of the lands in the region of the Howpaslot, Edschaw, Branxholm, which is now the Buccleuch scot. Basically the line transferred to the Buccleuch family.

Gavin of Stobs stepfather by marriage to Jean Scot, mother-in-law to Marion Hamilton wife to son of chief Robert, Robert chief also was not liked by Gavin;

Gavin of Stobs, Marion Hamilton of Redheugh

The chieftain line transferred from Robert of Redheugh to minor brother Gilbert of Stobs, this may give reason for non-recognition of the Elwald/Ellot line, of Braidley not being between Gorrenberry and The Hermitage Castle, a support for the Infinis, Windy Edge wind farm by todays Eliott of Redheugh-Stobs placing it on the Gorrenberry-Braidlie Estate of my families pre-Union ancestral land. The is what an Anglo-Dane gets when they are banished from both kingdoms in 1607. At least the Hamilton family helped granddad to get resettled on lands of Archbishop Malcolm Hamilton, of Monea on Tullykelter, and a Martin Ellot family of Braidlie origin was resettled nearby on Sir John Hume land, of Fermanagh, Ulster, Ireland, where many of our Armstrong brethren also settle. No one resettle in Ulster would use the names Gilbert or Walter for the Ellot or Armstrong.

At this time, 1590 one can see on map there is no Redheugh, but Robert is living in Lariston;

Liddesdale 1590

On 1590 map Ro Ellotts of Ladiestaine (Lariston) and Herskerth (Hartsgarth), but not Redheugh is not listed which would indicate in 1590 Lariston is the home of chier Robert Ellot, and Hartsgarth is shown to be of importance also.

More info on Maggie Kidd of Hartsgarth;

Maggie Kidd of Hartsgarth

No wonder my Ulster and Plantation American line did not care for the name Gilbert.  That may be why Arthur Eliott did a misplacement of Braidlie, on Clan map, and family wants to make sure my line remains vanquished by seeing a wind farm gets placed on the ancestral lands of the families of Gorrenberry, and Martin Elwood.

Lariston has a similar arms;

Redheugh, Lariston and Stobs have similar arms

So the seal and the arms of William of Horseleyhill is different from Redheugh, Lariston, and Stobs, a would be the arms of a different landholding family and the other land holding family would be that of William Elwald of Gorrenberry.

So the seal and the arms of William of Horseleyhill is different from Redheugh, Lariston, and Stobs, a would be the arms of a different landholding family and would be that of the other land holding family would be that of William Elwald/Ellot of Gorrenberry/Horseleyhill.

It should be noted; It is felt that since William Ellot of Gorrenberry lived at McPatrickhope. Ade Ellot to Adam Elliot as Cowadis seemed to keep the Cowie of Gorrenberry story going. And the names Adam and Patrick are Bothwell (Hepburn) names, with Martin of Braidley living at Braidley, but building his first tower near Laristion land. In the about map it also shows the Gorrenberry-Braidley lands combined. It is felt that William Elwald/Ellot acquired lands from William Douglas of the Barony of Cavers and those lands were Braidley, McPatrickhope, and Shaws.

William-Douglas-of-Cavers-McPatickhope-Braidley-and-Schawes

It is felt the Gorrenberry Crest is the old Elwald/Elwood of Yorkshire Crest, when Robert received the land of Redheugh and Lariston, he created his own crest with and Edinburgh standard elwand on the bend, and Gilbert born of Robert and Jean Scot (Buccleuch’s sister) of Redheugh, but was of Gavin and Jean Scot of Gorrenberry-Horseleyhill-Stobs, adopted the Redheugh shield for Stobs, but the Stobs name from the line of Gorrenberry.

It should be noted that it took a couple of generations for the Buccleuch to follow the policies of the united king, but basically, land which was acquired from the Scot family was given to Gilbert, and Stobs pasted to Gilbert like a son to Gavin, and Jean Scot.  Buccleuch Scott family received the lands of Gorrenberry.

APPENDIX C

The Name

In charters prior to 1500 the name was usually written in Old English ‘Elwald’ or ‘Elwold’. But is was always pronounced ‘Ellot’ (as it often is in the Borders to-day) and by 1600 the phonetic spelling had almost completely superseded all other forms. It therefore appears correct to regard the earlier Saxon form of spelling as archaic an to refer to the clan as ‘Ellots’ until about 1650 when the name was changed altogether to ‘Elliot’.

The Elliots The Story of the Border Clan Arthur Eliott 1986;

The only serious contention remaining, which is favoured by some modern historians, ascribes the surname to fairly common old Northumbrian christian name of Elwold or Elwald. While convenient in its simplicity, evidence of the Clan’s connection is lacking and, with only two references to Elwald as a surname prior to 1400— in 1230 and 1357 (in Northumberland)– we have no way of testing the validity of this theory.

The name ELLIOT was retained after about 1650 when and “i” was inserted into the Scottish name ELLOT.

The Elliots; The Story of a Border Clan,

The history of the emigrations of Border Scots, after the suppression of the clan system in the Borders in the early 1600s, provides some distinct pointers to the distribution of our Clan today and, indeed, give reasonable grounds for supposing that, outside England and Wales, the great majority of those who today call themselves Elliotts are of Scottish origin.

Also that a border reiver as notorious as Clementis Hobs of Stobs, would border reive, not for corporate power, and for the Kerr to beat the Buccleuch Scott in a feud, but like the Armstrong riding for ones father’s father and the children’s chidren to preserve the borderlands like the US 1906 Antiquities Act does for American to preserve which it has for future generations, The Armstrong Clan Trust is preserving the borderlands for the father’s father and the children’s children of many of the borderers of the United Kingdom and around the world. One of these days I would like to visit the borders. Take the distance from New York than double it and you will understand how far I will have to travel. Do not want to see like the Hume family have to put up with there castle, any industrialized turbines near the region.

As far as the Fairy Bear story goes the children of Fairy Bear are the Bear, Elk(moose), and Wolf the Bear and Elk(moose) are friends, but with the wolf the wolf is not named Ulf like the the Beorn and Elk are Germanic Danish in origin, the name of the wolf is Loumane which is Anglo-Norman, and means wolf person. In the United Kingdom the major majority like in the United States spell their name Elliott, but in the United Kingdom the Elliott are of Wm de Aliot Norman origins, which does not allow for the Danish Elk, and therefore in the United Kingdom the Elk, like in Europe and North America does exist but in the United Kingdom though introduced is not a part of the history.

Because in the history of Clan Elliot of the United Kingdom the Elk or Elwald line can not exist, and the Clan Elliot map does not place Braidley of Martin Ellot which  lead the Clan in it’s proper locality where a planned wind farm Infinis, Windy Edge is to be placed with the support of Clan Elliot, Clan Kerr, and Cessford (Roxburghe), all associated to North British Windpower (NBW), and they have already beaten a Buccleuch relation that of Northumberland also trying to protect the borderlands from industrial invasion.

Only being recognized as the Cowie of Gorrenberry by the Louman Elliott of the United Kingdom, plus the placement of an industrial wind farm on my family’s ancestral land of Gorrenberry am asking Clan Armstrong that the Elwald line become one of their septs, like the Crozier are.

Gibbie's Parentage (4)

Gavin Ellot second wife Jean Scot first married to Robert of Redheugh, Gilbert’s father clan chief. Though Jean Scot is the mother, the biological mother is Meg Kidd of Hartsgarth, who’s first son is William of Hartsgarth.

Noted; Jean Scot is mother of Gilbert and sister to Buccleuch, and Gibert married Margarett (Maggie Fendy) a daughter of Walter Scot of Harden a cousin to Buccleuch, with Meg Kidd being the biological mother this prevented incest.

Since William of Hartsgarth is the first son, Gilbert could not inherit Hartsgarth. William of Horseleyhill (Gorrenberry) is the oldest son of the first wife of Gavin of Gorrenberry-Horsleyhill-Baillillie-Stobs.

Gavin purchased Stobs for his (step)grandson first son of Gilbert, instead of naming his first son after himself he named his first son after his oldest brothers of Horsleyhill and Hartsgarth which were both named Willaim.

The Horsleyhill family was well tutored many of them worked as estate professionals such as baillie (lawyers) and caulter (accountants), many a Burgess of Selkirk came out of this family. Gilbert had little tutoring and could verily spell his name, but William his son was well tutored and likely high prized and loved by the family.

In the early stages of the English Civil War, William sided with Cromwell and the Parliamentarians, and change the family name from Ellot to Elliot to honor Sir John Elliot which died in The Tower of London for the Parliamentary cause, but in seeing what Cromwell’s general was doing to Scotland, William switched sides in support of the Royalists, which my family were of an taken to Tutthill Prison; William, in order to say his estate for his descendants committed suicide; otherwise the Parliamentarians would have taken the land for a tax. Before committing suicide to show support of the Hamilton families of Ulster he changed the Stobs name to Eliott.

When I do genealogical research I am doing this for the fathers and building on to what or fathers have already done. Also having been a teacher am doing it for the children, but am not doing it to support a continence of land base power of Scottish family fueding.

To have the Unvanquished it is felt you must have the Vanquished

With my genealogical research, since the Y-Chromosomes are shared with the Y-DNA, I am researching down the fathers which keep these Y-Chromosomes. Can related to the bull headed elk/moose returning to their ancient lands around Berlin, because that seems where my ancient roots and ancient name Elchwald, meaning elk(moose) of the forest, just like it is written in The Chronicles of the Armstrong and Armstrong collaboration that the Elwald-Elliot are elk of the forest, and the sceat/coin of Saint/King Elfwald bones in the Hexam Abbey have a stag head on the heads side and a full body horse on the horse side of the coin minted in York.

This is my heritage, like the land my family once owned and lived on that of Gorrenberry/Braidlie. Martin Ellot lived on the land at the time the Bothwell (Hepburn) family lived of The Hermitage Castle. Braidlie at the time was Bothwell land and the my family of Gorrenberry rode as part of the grain of Martin Ellot in protection of The Hermitage Castle. Buccleuch, family looked after the castle for hundreds of years, and after the Armstrong show their need to protect The Hermitage Castle, Buccleuch followed suit. Clan chiefs are followers not leaders.

The Armstrong are as I am ones which pitch in a feel that the final result will be much greater then that of a single individual making decisions. Today there are many people including Buccleuch choosing to ride with this Armstrong collective, and in support of The Clan Armstrong’s preservation of the borderland including the most historical building on The Hermitage Castle.

The Gorrenberry Arms are of an ancient family which are apart of my family’s history, but my grandfather being banished from both kingdoms in 1607, being a American, and of The Society of Friends, do not want the it if is is not now recognized as and Elwood/Elwold clan shield, do not want it recognized. It helps to be vanquished a Cowie of Gorrenberry, a cover which I can present honestly but taken to be untrue. If someone takes the what is accurately applied as being untrue the they are creating the untruths. Since I am supplying information as accurate hopefully as my ancestors, father and Daniel which presented testimony in Salem, and this is a search for family an a search for self, others need not accept it, but get tired because of it being a self search of the father’s father, of people trying to tell me who my father is.

It is felt the sons of Clementis Hob  Robert Ellot/Elliot and Dand Ellot/Daniel Elliot were banish like the family of Martin Ellot/Elwood were banished from both kingdoms at the time of The Union of the Crowns, and moved onto Hamiliton and Hume land of Ulster, Fermanagh, and Armagh. Robert and Daniel to refused to take loyalty oaths for the named professions in their respective estates. Showing loyalty in not in my early family history of displaced borders, but showing equality is.

The families of the combined lands of Braidley and Gorrenberry, served the Bothwell family until 1592, and in 1607 there was no more need for soldiers for The Hermitage, and since the United Kingdom does not have an Antiquities Act like to protect it’s antiquities since 1906, the Kingdom’s aristocracy has take on the care of the historical antiquities. The Buccleuch Estates has been renovating a preserving The Hermitage Castle for centuries, but now corporate heads of companies with rival aristocracy and covertly trying control public opinion with no antiquities act these historical antiquities such as The Hermitage Castle can be bribed away with promised jobs giving the numbers the whole industry hires, and not the numbers which I feel are very low on jobs which local people will get. This industrial waste an desecration of localities an homeland of families such as myself, which may travel thousands of miles to see The Hermitage Castle in which their family fought to protect only to see a wind farm on their industrial land by family members still feuding from corporate position with local aristocracy which are and have been protecting these antiquities for the regional localities for centuries.
